What is RDP Powder
RDP, redispersible polymer powder, or VAE-RDP Vinyl acetate-co-ethylene copolymers RDP. It’s obtained from spray-drying treatment of optimized latex dispersion that consists of polymeric particles, these particles are dispersible in water. It is a white liquid powder which can be easily re-emulsified and dispersed in water to form a stable emulsion. Redispersible polymer powder for construction includes exterior wall putty, tile adhesive, wall insulation mortar, floor-filling compositions, and water-proof mortar. When adding RDP powders to mortars increases cohesion, bond strength, and flexibility.
Redispersible Polymer Powder has many benefits in the construction industry. It has good flexibility to increase the bending and flexural strength of the mortar. As an organic binder, it forms a film with high tensile and adhesive strength on different substrates. Apart from that, RDP can also improve the impact resistance, durability and abrasion resistance of the mortar. During renovation in winter, RDP improves the weather resistance of mortar, and freeze-thaw resistance and effectively prevents mortar cracking.

RDP powder manufacturing process
Redispersible polymer powders are manufactured by spray drying an aqueous solution that contains stabilizers and polymers. When mixed with water, the dispersible polymer powder decomposes and releases the individual dispersion particles again. The dispersed polymer powder shares the same characteristics as the initial dispersion. It’s a process from dispersion combined with a protective colloid after spray drying to become dispersible polymer powder.
